Baltimore, Maryland (May 12, 2010): The National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the nation’s oldest and largest organization of blind people, today announced the winners of its 2010 Scholarship Program, which awards thirty scholarships each year to recognize achievement by blind scholars. They can arrange to provide you a machine that’s capable of downloading the books as well as playing books supplied by your regional library. ASSESSING NEEDS OF FAMILIES WITH HANDICAPPED INFANTS

A 35-item parent survey was developed to assess the functional needs of parents with young handicapped children. A rationale for scale development and content is presented. National Federation of the Blind Applauds Measure to Ensure Blind People Equal Access to Technology
Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today introduced the Technology Bill of Rights for the Blind (H.R. 4533), which will mandate that all consumer electronics, home appliances, kiosks, and electronic office technology provide user interfaces that are accessible to the blind.

Microsoft Patches Internet Explorer Hole
BBC NEWS Microsoft patches Explorer hole
Microsoft has released a fix for a hole in Internet Explorer that was the weak link in a “sophisticated and targeted” cyber attack on Google. Microsoft recommends that customers install the update as soon as possible or update to the latest version of the web browser for “improved security”.

FLETCHER SCHOLARSHIPS
Each year The Fletcher School allocates funds for student scholarships. The funds are divided equally for first- and second-year students and are awarded on the basis of merit and need. To be considered for a Fletcher scholarship, all students who will take classes at Fletcher next year should complete the Continuing Student Scholarship Application. Submit the completed form to Fletcher’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (Goddard 213) by April 17, 2009. You must submit this form even if you received a Fletcher scholarship for your first year of study. (Note that PhD students charged only the enrollment fee should use the simplified Continuing PhD Student Scholarship Application.)
